Why this course matters

A professional perspective
This course equips learners to manage waqf as a development institution, not only as a charitable asset. You will build the ability to map Sustainable Development Goals against the maqāsid al-Sharīʿah, distinguish religious, philanthropic, family, property and cash waqf, and evaluate models for funding poverty alleviation, microfinance, education, healthcare, water, sanitation, clean energy, housing, employment and innovation. These capabilities are valuable across awqaf authorities, Islamic social finance institutions, foundations, NGOs, development agencies, Islamic banks, municipalities and impact-oriented organisations. Through examples such as productive waqf initiatives in Indonesia, the IDB-Bangladesh Islamic Solidarity Educational Waqf and Fael Khair Waqf, the course develops practical judgment for designing, assessing and governing waqf-based programmes that serve communities sustainably.
Through the lens of faith
Waqf management is a field where beneficial knowledge, ʿilm nāfiʿ, can become enduring service. This course approaches waqf through the Islamic vision of development: falāḥ, raḥmah, justice, maslahah and the prevention of harm. By studying how waqf can support food security, healthcare, education, family empowerment, water, energy, housing, environmental protection and strong institutions, learners see how social finance may contribute to the maqāsid al-Sharīʿah, including the protection and nurturing of faith, life, intellect, family and wealth. The course does not reduce worship to administration; rather, it shows how careful governance, responsible stewardship and concern for both people and the planet can be part of our trust before the Creator and our mercy toward creation.
