Why this course matters

A professional perspective
This course builds the communication capabilities needed wherever Islamic organisations serve people: education, media, finance, charities, healthcare, community leadership, daʿwah initiatives, and digital platforms. Students move from foundational models—linear, interactive, transactional, systems, psychological, social constructivist, media-centric, and critical/cultural—to applied skills in interpersonal communication, consultation, public messaging, accuracy, and privacy. The course strengthens the ability to diagnose noise and distortion, choose appropriate channels, communicate with empathy and clarity, and evaluate mass communication against ethical standards. It also prepares learners to handle sensitive contexts such as shūrā, contracts and agreements, information management, and public expression with professionalism. These skills support better teams, clearer stakeholder relationships, more trustworthy institutions, and communication practices that are both effective and ethically aware.
Through the lens of faith
Communication is deeply connected to the pursuit of beneficial knowledge, because words carry meanings, shape trust, and affect hearts, relationships, and communities. This course explores Qur’anic and Prophetic guidance on truthfulness, clarity, patience, empathy, privacy, and responsible speech, while also engaging contemporary communication theory. In this way, it helps learners see communication as part of serving the higher aims of the Sharīʿah: safeguarding faith, life, intellect, dignity, family, and property through accuracy, consultation, respect, and protection from harm. Studying distortion, isnād, data privacy, daʿwah, adhān, shahādah, ʿaqd, and shūrā reminds us that communication is not merely technical; it is a trust. Used with sincerity and wisdom, it becomes a means of fulfilling responsibility to the Creator and showing care toward creation.
